You love Palma. Its vibrant culture, its magnificent cathedral, its alluring shopping. Shady squares filled with tables of laughing people, where the twenty-minute pit-stop turns into a couple of hours, another round of chilled beer or a jug of sangria, maybe a few tapas. This city has an energy of its own, as well as divine dining and the sparkle of the sea.

But you don’t want to stay in the bustling centre, you need some peace, time to reset. You want a garden and maybe an olive tree or two. You want to breathe fresh air and the scent of jasmine and bougainvillea and find yourself stretched out on a sunbed by a pool, now and again. Villa Ortiz provides all this with the proximity to Palma you love, and a glorious view over the bay.

It is situated on a hillside, so has several layers of terraces where outdoor living is easy. Plenty of greenery provides shade and privacy. Wandering up and down the levels, picking fresh herbs as you go, you find little corners so that the party can spread out and enjoy some individual space. Later, perhaps after a dip in the pool, you can all meet again at the large outside table for a barbecue of the beautiful local produce you bought this morning from the fabulous Mercat de L’Olivar. Throw that sprig of rosemary onto the grill, the fragrance is intoxicating.

Inside, Villa Ortiz carries off practical living with style and clever use of colour. Flashes of art deco add character to the brightness and light that compliments the Mallorca sunshine. The white kitchen is a dreamy space with a breath-taking view across the sea. It is also intensely practical, with two ovens and two dishwashers and a separate laundry room.

Upstairs, three airy bedrooms all open onto terraces or balconies. Two are en suite and one has a bathroom just across the corridor. The fourth bedroom is like a guest suite, with its own small kitchen, bathroom and seating. Its access is directly onto the pool terrace. It would be a precious addition to the accommodation if you are accompanied by staff. Or it will be the hideaway certain members of the party will adore.

You have a garage for your car and private gates to close you off from the hustle of the outside world. When the evening closes in and the lights go on in the city round the bay, you will be able to look up and see the stars in the night sky. You are connected to the city but you also have your own little world.
