Fit for a God

Villa Poseidon seems to expand as you explore. It is one of those glamourous holiday homes that reaches out across crystal white spaces, through sumptuous rooms of minimalist elegance and where endless sparkling terraces give out onto yet more terraces that gaze down on the deep blue Aegean Sea. It is close to the party of Mykonos town, to the sandy glitz of Psarou beach, and yet it’s your cool and elegant retreat.

The terraces are many layered but the hub will be by the pool. It plays that trick where the ripples trickle off the side towards the sea which, however many times you witness it, never fails to bring a sense of one-ness with the ocean gods. The villa’s name seems apt. Recline on pool beds lapped by water and look across the bay and you have found a little piece of Elysium. Just beyond the pool, a covered porch is a stunningly beautiful site for the long dining table under colonial style fans to waft and gently cool the warm Mediterranean air. On a level above, a large terrace cradles a jacuzzi and more shady and sunny seating areas; another outdoor jacuzzi will be found through glass doors of the master bedroom. Villa Poseidon has a lot of jacuzzis – sharing is not compulsory!

Inside, all that pristine purity of white walls and marble floors is set off by splashes of black and vibrant modern artwork. It takes the heat off the hedonism with which Mykonos days and nights can overflow, here you can find calm and take the idea of chill-out seriously. There are more seating and dining areas, a breakfast bar along the sleek black open-plan kitchen. Even with the house full, there are always spaces to escape a while. Some quiet corner, your private jacuzzi maybe...

Or your spacious bedroom. Scattered across the three levels of the house, all six en-suite bedrooms share a spirit of generosity with space, even the smallest, and vast views over the sea expand their bright airiness.

The location, the little enclave of Agios Lazaros, is an exclusive corner of Mykonos. The soft sand and clear water of Psarou beach, as well as its restaurants and beach club, draw visitors by bus and by super yacht. But from the outdoor area of your gleaming little palace there wends a narrow path. In four minutes you are on the beach.
